Premium Italian clothing company Chervò is celebrating after player ambassador Kurt Kitayama secured the brand’s first PGA Tour win with a one-shot victory at the 2023 Arnold Palmer Invitational.
Heading into the final round at Bay Hill Club holding a one-shot lead over Scottie Scheffler and Viktor Hovland, Kitayama saw off a star-studded chasing pack that also included Rory McIlroy, Tyrrell Hatton and Jordan Spieth to record an even-par 72 for his maiden PGA Tour title.
Kitayama bounced back from a damaging triple bogey at the ninth hole with seven straight pars to stay in contention before a birdie on the testing par-3 17th moved him one clear. The 30-year-old would confirm victory with a par on the final hole to finish one shot ahead of McIlroy and American Harris English.
After becoming the fastest player to register two wins in DP World Tour history following victory in his third start at the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open in December 2018 and the Oman Open in his 11th start the following March, Kitayama’s win in Florida sees him qualify for a second-successive Open Championship and moves him up to 19th in the Official World Golf Ranking.
The victory proved to be monumental for Chervò as the Bay Hill title marked the first time a Chervò player ambassador has won on the PGA Tour.
For decades, Chervò – an official supplier of the 2023 Ryder Cup – has been at the forefront of Italy’s quest to provide high-quality golf apparel. Since launching in 1982, the brand has released a range of high-performance items that have been worn by male and female golfers across the planet.
Kitayama is one of several top-ranked golfers to wear the apparel brand, with DP World Tour pro Johannes Veerman and Ladies European Tour star Noemi Jimenez Martin also wearing the latest gear from Chervò.
The company’s Spring-Summer 2023 Collection – which is available in select stores now and online from March 20 – has taken inspiration from big milestones including its 40th anniversary and the first Ryder Cup to be held on Italian soil.
Reflecting upon company archives proved to be the driving force with many pieces adopting the boldness of knockout pink and electric blue. The favourite butterfly pattern in the women’s line and the all-over diamond print on the men’s line also both feature heavily in the collection – a throwback to the spirit of the past.
The spirit of looking back and revamping the past also drove the company to the cobbled streets and history of Rome as the Italian capital prepares to welcome one of global sport’s biggest events.
The Chervò Spring-Summer 23 Collection is available in select stores now and online from March 20.
