ECCO® GOLF ambassador, Erik van Rooyen, delivered a sensational Sunday afternoon comeback to win the World Wide Technology Championship in Mexico.
van Rooyen, who was battling to secure his PGA Tour status at the start of the week, sat four shots adrift at the turn on Sunday afternoon, before shooting an incredible back-nine 28 to triumph by two shots.
Wearing his own signature edition ECCO BIOM® H4, van Rooyen secured his second PGA Tour title in what was an emotional week for the trailblazing South African – as his college teammate and close friend Jon Trasamar battles against cancer.
“I was calm because there’s bigger stuff in life than golf,” commented an emotional van Rooyen. “Every shot out there today was for him. And when you’re playing for something bigger than winning some silly trophy, it puts things in perspective.
“So I wasn’t calm all the time, but when I step onto the golf course, I have a job to do and that’s what it comes down to at the end of the day, do your job – and now we can celebrate and cry.”
Timo Vollrath, Head of Global Marketing at ECCO GOLF, added: “It was a real pleasure to see Erik return to the winner’s circle this week. Not only to see him lift a PGA Tour trophy again, but to do it with so much going on behind the scenes is hugely impressive.
“Everyone at ECCO GOLF is proud of Erik’s victory this week, and we look forward to seeing him hopefully add more titles to his name over the coming months,” added Vollrath.
In addition to Erik van Rooyen, ECCO GOLF shoes are worn in competition around the world by Caroline Masson, Nanna Koerstz Madsen, Niklas Norgaard Moller, Lydia Ko, Doc Redman, Henrik Stenson, Esther Henseleit, Freddy Schott and Thomas Bjørn, among others.
