The reputation of The Manor House as one of the country’s elite golf resorts has received a glowing endorsement after being ranked inside the top 30 of an influential list of the top golf resorts in Great Britain and Ireland.
The luxury venue in Castle Combe, Wiltshire, was included at number 28 of Golf World magazine’s updated poll of the ‘Top 100 Resorts in Great Britain & Ireland’.
Assessed over four different categories – golf courses, accommodation, non-golf amenities and setting – the magazine’s judging panel was particularly impressed with the accommodation options available while The Manor House was also rated in the top-five resorts for couples, being described as “a fabulous hotel in a perfect setting.”
The Top-100 panel said: “For a one-course resort to be so high and for the course not to be an English Top 100 entry tells you how good it is.
“It sits in a ‘chocolate box’ village and the hotel is utterly exquisite, with bathrooms to die for. The food is Michelin starred and there are tennis courts and amazing gardens. This really is something special.”
Andrew Ryan, golf club manager at The Manor House, said: “To be ranked so highly in a list that includes some of the most famous golf resorts in the world is fantastic news and a real honour.
“The aim of everyone here is to provide all our members and guests with the best possible experience on and off the course. Located in one of the most beautiful parts of the country, The Manor House is the ideal venue for a luxury break and we’re looking forward to welcoming many new golfers, couples and families in the future.”
Considered one of the best golf courses in the south-west of England, The Manor House’s delightful layout is immersed in the enchanting surroundings of the Cotswolds, with 365 acres of breathtaking rolling countryside as a backdrop.
Designed by Peter Alliss and Clive Clark, the mature oak and beech trees that line the beautifully manicured fairways, together with the immaculate greens and the River Bybrookmeandering through the middle, bring both drama and beauty to the 6,500-yard parkland course.
The golf club is part of a wider estate, which encompasses a 12th-century pub, The Castle Inn, and a luxury country house hotel, The Manor House, a 14th-century stately building with an enviable reputation, owned and managed by the Exclusive Collection.
Featuring a Michelin-starred restaurant, alfresco dining and a dedicated gin bar, the hotel includes 21 comfortable, individually styled rooms and suites – as well as 29 picturesque cottages full of character – and is full of charm and traditional quirky features.
The Castle Inn is a cosy 12th-century country pub which sits in the heart of the village, opposite the adjacent main hotel, offering 12 unique en-suite bedrooms and delicious homemade food. The pub is particularly popular among groups of golfers looking for more affordable accommodation and a pint or two of the local beer on offer.
In addition, the recently acquired Baker’s Cottage gives a new dimension to The Manor House’s self-catering offering, with the estate’s Waterfall Lodge, overlooking the golf course’s 18th green, providing a further self-contained option, with easy outdoor access and space.
