Onyria Quinta da Marinha Hotel’s reputation for all-round excellence has received a new endorsement with the leading Portuguese venue having been shortlisted for a top honour at the 2022 M & IT Awards – ‘the Oscars of the MICE industry’.
The five-star golf and lifestyle resort in Cascais, near Lisbon, is one of seven global venues to have been nominated in the category of ‘Best Overseas Hotel’, with other names in the running for the accolade including Adare Manor in Ireland – host of the 2026 Ryder Cup – Marina Bay Sands in Singapore and Sandals Royal Barbados, winner of the award last year.
A short drive from the Portuguese capital and surrounded by nature, Quinta da Marinha Hotel is the ideal setting for businesses to stage seminars, conferences, meetings, banquets and other events. Offering a choice of four meeting rooms with natural light, the venue can cater for up to 450 people while its expert events support service team will ensure that all requirements are met.
Launched 35 years ago, the M & IT Awards is the oldest established awards programme in the meetings industry. Recognising and rewarding excellence, they are voted for by UK-based event organisers and the readers of Meetings & Incentive Travel Magazine – with votes audited and verified by the independent Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC). The winners will be announced at a ceremony at Evolution London on September 9.
Joá£o Pinto Coelho, director of the Onyria Quinta da Marinha Hotel, said: “The MICE industry is a key part of our business and is an area that we have been keen to develop in recent years.
“Regarded as the Oscars of the industry, these awards are respected worldwide, so to have been shortlisted for this top honour alongside some of the leading hotel names in the world gives us real pleasure.”
The nomination is the latest global recognition that the Onyria Quinta da Marinha Hotel has received after recently being named in the top one per cent of hotels worldwide and winning two global accolades from Tripadvisor – the world’s largest travel site. Renowned for its long-term commitment to investment and providing an outstanding customer experience, the Lisbon venue was named among the leading 25 hotels in Portugal in both the top hotels and luxury hotels categories.
Located in the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park, the resort allows guests to enjoy nature and tranquility with rounds of golf on the 18-hole course, designed by Sir Robert Trent Jones as a par-71 and located just a 30-minute drive from Lisbon.
In addition to undertaking a recent 5m upgrade of its hotel, Quinta da Marinha has carried out a number of other major renovations across the facilities, including enhancing its approach to sustainability with the installation of 553 photovoltaic solar panels.
Powering the hotel’s lighting via a renewable source, the 240,000 investment will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 94,188 tons per year, minimising the resort’s reliance on external energy sources, and protecting them against price increases while making the resort more ecologically sound.
