Terras da Comporta’s relationship with Azalea continues to go from strength to strength after agreeing a multi-year contract extension with the marcomms specialists.
The luxury Portuguese golf and lifestyle estate first started working with Azalea in 2022, 12 months before the official opening of its globally acclaimed Dunas Course, and took steps to extend the partnership as it prepares to open a second 18-hole championship layout, The Torre Course, this summer.
The Dunas Course confirmed its reputation as one of the world’s ‘must-play’ golf venues after winning three of the top international accolades at last year’s World Golf Awards – including the prestigious honour of ‘World’s Best Golf Course’ – and Rodrigo Ulrich, director of golf at Terras da Comporta, believes The Torre Course is set to make a similar impact when it is unveiled to the golfing world in June.
Ulrich said: “It’s amazing to see the distance that we have come in such a short space of time. Terras da Comporta is a name that’s on the lips of golfers all over the world and the role that Azalea has played in the work that we have done so far has been invaluable.
“The interest that we have seen in The Dunas Course since we launched has been nothing short of incredible and we believe that The Torre Course has the potential to be just as big a success when it opens this summer. Azalea has played a big part in what we have achieved so far and we’re looking forward to an exciting future working with one of the most creative and hard-working companies in the business.”
Azalea director, Andy Barwell, said: “We’re thrilled to have extended our partnership. We’ve achieved some great things so far and we’re looking forward to another big year for Terras da Comporta, including the eagerly anticipated launch of The Torre Course.”
Owned by Vanguard Properties, Portugal’s largest real estate developer who took ownership of the development in 2019, Terras da Comporta features two large developments: Torre, comprising 365 hectares of land and Dunas, which occupies around 1,011 hectares.
Situated one hour south of Lisbon in a secluded setting on the edge of the Sado Estuary Nature Reserve, The Dunas Course is golf architect David McLay-Kidd’s first golf design project in mainland Europe. Measuring 6,646 metres off the back tees, it has been created over 84 hectares of natural, sandy terrain and has been built using the highest sustainable practices.
Designed by European Ryder Cup legend Sergio Garcia, the Torre Course will be the first major layout that the Spaniard has held overall design responsibility for. Inspired by Real Club Valderrama – the 2017 US Masters champion’s favourite course in the world – the par-72 course will feature generous fairways, small greens and measure 6,575 metres from the back tees when it opens.
As well as two 18-hole golf courses, Terras da Comporta will boast a wide range of lifestyle and sporting facilities including tennis, padel, pickleball and horse riding. The development also includes an array of plots for hotels, tourist and residential condominiums.
